2014 Color of the Year

Pantone announced its 2014 color of the year as Radiant Orchid.  The design world seems to be scratching its head with this announcement.  I think this color can be dynamite as an accent color in many rooms.  Perhaps now the wine, plum and burgundy tones will be back in the spotlight.  I remember the burgundy from the 80’s and early 90’s.  When I posted the announcement on my Facebook Business page, a fabric company commented that they have started to see fabric orders in these color tones.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Benjamin Moore’s color forecast for 2014.

Softer and lighter tends to be their prediction, influenced by softer lines in furnishings and people’s need to relax. One of the color families that stood out is blue – pale and a little more grayed.  Thus, Benjamin Moore’s color of the year for 2014 is Breath of Fresh Air.

According to New York Spaces, soft suedes and faux suedes in monochromatic color schemes will be seen.   Metallica and metal surfaces encompass everything from silver, gold, bronze, platinum, nickel and gunmetal.  You will see everything from brushed metals to shiny.  Appliques will also be seen on fabrics and walls.  Malachite will be a prominent material.
