2015 Market trends

IMG_0479 IMG_0561 IMG_0588 IMG_0592The High Point Furniture and Accessories Market, held a few weeks ago, was bustling with about 75,000 attendees from all over the world, and I enjoyed every minute despite the miles of walking from showroom to showroom.  It’s always an interesting time to see new products and new trends.

Mint was seen frequently in many of the showrooms, which was a surprise to me and many others.  It was paired with a deep cobalt blue and also with red.  Cobalt blue on its own was also popular at this market and can be a dramatic accessory.  Pale turquoise, coral and black/white also stood out.

Geometrics were seen everywhere, from lamp bases to tables to fabric designs to accessories.  Greek key, diamond and quatrefoil patterns also continue to be strong.

The recycle and repurpose theme played itself out in the form of many reclaimed wood furniture items.  There were bark-inspired tables and lamp bases.  Several showrooms were also showing an industrial designed table, complete with a metal crank.

Believe it or not, brass has made a big comeback.  I spotted brass on lighting fixtures, candlesticks, mirrors, an occasional chair and more.  Bronze is still a popular metal.

Mid-century modern has been refined and reinvented with clean lines.  Lucite and acrylic were seen on chairs, cocktail tables, and accent pieces.  And leopard prints continue to play an important role in the home.

Here are a few photos from the showrooms.
