I just returned from my annual trip to the High Point Furniture and Accessories Market, and it was exciting and inspirational as usual! After going through the showrooms, you begin to spot the trends.  So what were the trends this spring?

Aqua has been popular for several years now and it was again seen in various ways – on wood finishes, upholstery and accessories. Indigo blue is another color that continues from last year.

Bright orange was seen on cabinets and can be a dramatic piece in a room.

Let’s not forget gray and gunmetal, which was the dominant neutral and seems to have a lot of staying power.

An interesting design trend was a knot. We saw knots in glass, resin and ceramic in centerpieces and combined with other accessories.

Fretwork was also popular on many of the cabinets. Greek key and quatrefoil patterns also continue to be strong.

There was a custom hardwood furniture company who can manufacture anything, including combining wood, fabric, leather, metal or paint finish to create your own custom piece. The one shown combines a fabric front, painted wood base, and leather and brass handles.  There was also one covered in cowhide.  There were other companies that showed pieces that combined wood and metal.  We saw curved edges on tables at a few showrooms, so that seems to be emerging as a trend.
